The State of the Brew-nion

In case it wasn’t already obvious, we’re pretty passionate about all things related to Knoxville and local beer. We strive to be the most accurate and up-to-date source for all things Knoxville beer. With that being said, the number one question we get asked is, “How many breweries are in Knoxville?” You would think this would be an easy question to answer, but it’s a little more complicated than you would think! Breweries in planning, taprooms preparing to open, breweries in operation, and everything in between…this is The State of the Brew-nion.

What are we defining as a brewery?

(We know that right off the bat these are somewhat subjective and intense, but we think you will appreciate the honesty and attention to detail)

Brewery: A lease on a building, a TTB license and currently producing malt beverages ONSITE available to the public for purchase.

Brewery (taproom only location): A lease on a building and currently serving malt beverages that have been produced OFFSITE available for purchase to the public.

Brewery (coming soon): A lease on a building, a TTB license but NOT currently producing malt beverages available for purchase to the public.

Brewery in planning: A lease on a building but no TTB license and NOT currently producing malt beverages available for purchase to the public.

Brewery in concept: No lease, no TTB license and not currently producing malt beverages available for purchase BUT has social media and beer festival presences with branding.

* : Represents a cidery or meadery. Not technically beer but we consider them to be a part of the family and places that visitors would like to know about.
